I’m monoecious but I identify as femme. I live in a pretty tight-knit community and I love making my neighbors giggle through the rhizome. I connect really easily with other Joshua Trees and I’ve hosted so many symbiotic creatures, but I’m seeking a long-term partnership with just one yucca moth to laugh with, party with, and reproduce with. I know it seems kind of lame and trad to just want one partner. I know it’s not cool to be so direct. I know that the world is going to crap. I’m afraid of bringing organisms into a world that’s going to destroy them. But if we did keep our respective species alive, maybe we could make a difference. So here is my dream: You are a beautiful, funny, generous, fuzzy moth and you give me butterflies every time you get close to my flowers. I’d make sure my flowers became the perfect home for your eggs, and when your larva hatch I’d feed them the most delicious seeds. But it’s not just about raising kids together and sending them off into the desert. Before long, our kids will disperse and make their own lives and then it’s just us. So we have to have something deep and fun at the same time. You share my values of humor, intelligence, and authenticity. You love to dance and get buzzed. You call me out on my stuff in a kind way and understand my love languages (touch and words of affirmation). You accept me for who I am, but support me growing in new directions.
